Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from his reelection campaign.
In a recent email to CNBC, Disney stated, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination. Earlier this month, she had declared she would halt contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.
During her initial announcement to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s qualifications. She stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s … we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among a group of influential Democratic donors who criticized Biden following a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from the donor class, along with a decline in financial support, contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race.
Following Biden’s announcement, prominent Democratic donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris.
