Heiress Abigail Disney has announced her decision to resume financial contributions to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. Disney, a prominent figure in the Disney legacy and granddaughter of co-founder Walt Disney, previously declared she would cease donations until Biden stepped aside.
In an email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
When she initially withheld her financial support, Disney expressed strong backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among a group of elite Democratic donors who became disillusioned with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential donors and a decline in funding may have contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw. Following the announcement of Biden’s exit, billionaire donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
