Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors After Biden’s Exit: What’s Next?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced her intention to resume donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection. Earlier this month, Disney stated she would halt contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s exit from the race and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. Previously, Disney had also expressed her support for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s qualifications and urging the Democratic Party to unite behind her.

Disney noted that the party should consider Harris’s potential, suggesting that if Democrats could overlook her perceived shortcomings as much as they have with Biden, they could achieve significant electoral success.

Disney’s decision to pause her donations came after a negative reaction from several elite Democratic donors, particularly after Biden’s poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from this donor class contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Notably, major Democratic donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris now that Biden has stepped aside.
