Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Recently, Disney had stated that she would halt her contributions until the party selected a new candidate to lead the ticket.
In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she initially decided to stop her donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, praising her as an outstanding Vice President. She suggested that if the Democratic Party could embrace Harris with the same tolerance they had shown Biden, they could secure a significant victory in the upcoming election.
Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly following his poor performance in debates against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from high-profile donors, along with a decline in funding, contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Notable billionaire donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also thrown their support behind Harris after Biden’s announcement.
