Heiress Abigail Disney has announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.
Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, previously declared that she would halt any contributions to the party unless Biden stepped aside. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her change of stance, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
When she had initially announced her decision to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris. She highlighted the Vice President’s capabilities, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among many high-profile Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that dissatisfaction from the donor class and reduced funding contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
