Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors After Biden’s Exit: What It Means for Harris

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney, who is the granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would stop contributing to the party until Biden stepped aside. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed her return to supporting the party now that Biden has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When she initially decided to halt her donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s—and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity—and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among numerous prominent Democratic donors who expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden after what was perceived as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor base and a decline in funding may have influenced Biden’s decision to exit the race. Following Biden’s announcement, notable philanthropist George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.
