Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors: A New Era?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek re-election. Earlier this month, Disney stated that she would cease contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to support the party once again, as Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential run. When she first declared her intention to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, noting, “We have an excellent Vice President.”

Disney criticized the party’s treatment of Harris in comparison to Biden, emphasizing the need for Democrats to unite and rally around Harris in order to secure a victory in the upcoming election. She indicated her belief that the party could achieve significant success if they address perceived inequalities related to race and gender in their support for candidates.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic Party donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from high-profile donors and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Additionally, investor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown their support for Vice President Harris following Biden’s exit from the presidential race.
