Abigail Disney Reinstates Donations to Democrats: What Changed?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will reinstate her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has chosen to withdraw his candidacy for reelection.

Mars, the company known for M&Ms, is set to acquire Kellanova, the maker of Pop-Tarts, in one of the largest deals this year.

Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would halt contributions to the party until a new candidate replaced Biden. In a Monday email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision to resume support, following Biden’s exit from the race and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

At the time she announced her initial decision, Disney also expressed her backing for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney is among several prominent Democratic donors who have expressed discontent with Biden, particularly after what was considered a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from major donors, along with a decline in financial support, contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race.

Furthermore, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also thrown their support behind Harris following Biden’s announcement.
