Abigail Disney Reignites Support for Democrats: What’s Next?

Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she plans to resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the race for reelection. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

Earlier, Disney had declared that she would cease contributions to the party until a new candidate replaced Biden. During that time, she expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who voiced their frustration with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from the donor class and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, influential figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
