Abigail Disney Reignites Support for Democrats: What’s Next?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will start donating to the Democratic Party again following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier in the month, Disney had declared her intention to halt contributions to the party until Biden stepped aside. However, in an email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When she first paused her donations, Disney expressed her endorsement for Harris, saying, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden after what many considered a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Similarly, prominent donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also announced their support for Harris following Biden’s exit.
