Heiress Abigail Disney has announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from his reelection campaign. Earlier this month, Disney declared she would cease contributions until the party replaced Biden at the top of the ticket.
In an email to CNBC on Monday, Disney confirmed her renewed support, stating she would back the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Biden has endorsed as his successor. Disney had previously expressed her commitment to Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s qualifications.
“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” Disney remarked.
Her decision to pause donations stemmed from discontent among several elite Democratic donors after Biden’s poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that this dissatisfaction, alongside dwindling financial support, contributed to Biden’s exit from the race.
Other prominent donors, including George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown their support for Harris following Biden’s withdrawal.
