Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the 2024 election race. Earlier this month, Disney had stated she would cease contributions to the party until Biden was replaced as the leading candidate.
In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her decision to resume support, now that Biden has stepped down and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Previously, when she decided to withhold donations, she expressed her backing for Harris.
Disney praised Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
She was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decline in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.
Prominent liberal figure George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris after Biden announced his withdrawal.
