Heir to the Disney legacy, Abigail Disney, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race.
Disney had previously declared that she would cease contributions to the party until a new candidate replaced Biden at the helm. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her intention to support the party again, following Biden’s exit and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she first revealed her decision to halt donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several high-profile Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after what was perceived as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that mounting pressure from the donor class and dwindling financial support were contributing factors to Biden’s decision to step back from the race.
Additionally, prominent Democratic donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their endorsement for Harris following Biden’s announcement.
