Abigail Disney, heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. Disney previously stated that she would halt donations until the party replaced Biden as its nominee.

In a statement to CNBC, Disney confirmed her return to supporting the party now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Earlier, when she decided to stop her financial contributions, Disney expressed her backing for Harris.

Disney voiced her belief in Harris’s capabilities as Vice President, suggesting that if the Democratic Party were to unite behind Harris instead of continuing to support Biden, they would have a strong chance of winning the upcoming election. She pointed out the inequities regarding how race and gender impact the support given to the candidates.

Her decision to withhold donations was part of a broader discontent among prominent Democratic donors following Biden’s poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that this dissatisfaction within the donor class contributed to Biden’s eventual withdrawal from the race. In addition, notable supporters like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also publicly endorsed Harris following Biden’s exit.
