Heiress Abigail Disney has announced her decision to resume donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to abandon his reelection campaign. Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would halt her contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.
In an email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. Disney had previously expressed her support for Harris when she announced her intentions to withhold donations.
“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” Disney remarked.
Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his underwhelming debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from donors and a decline in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race.
In addition to Disney, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
