Abigail Disney Reignites Democratic Donations: What’s Next for Harris?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, previously indicated that she would halt her contributions to the party until a new candidate was named. In a response to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

When she initially made the decision to suspend her donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden after what they deemed a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside.

Notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown their support for Harris following Biden’s announcement.
