Abigail Disney Reignites Democratic Donations: What’s Behind Her Support for Harris?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she plans to resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated earlier this month that she would refrain from contributing to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.

In a message to CNBC on Monday, Disney confirmed her renewed support and expressed her backing for Vice President Kamala Harris, who has now been endorsed by Biden.

When she initially declared her intention to halt contributions, Disney voiced strong support for Harris, emphasizing that Democrats should embrace her leadership. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.

Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that this discontent among influential funders contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Additionally, billionaire philanthropist George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris after Biden’s announcement.
