Abigail Disney Reignites Democratic Donations: What Changed?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will restart her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has ended his reelection campaign. In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her decision, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination.

Earlier this month, Disney had declared that she would suspend her contributions to the party until a new leader was chosen. She expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing the need for Democrats to rally behind her. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s, and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” Disney stated.

Disney was among numerous prominent Democratic donors who became disenchanted with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from these donors, coupled with a decline in funding, was a significant factor in Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s exit, notable figures like George Soros and his son Alex Soros have also expressed their support for Harris.
