Abigail Disney Reignites Democratic Donations After Biden’s Exit: What’s Next?

Abigail Disney, heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will renew her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Earlier this month, she stated that she would cease contributions until Biden was replaced on the ticket.

In a message to CNBC on Monday, Disney confirmed her intent to resume support now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential run.

When she initially declared her decision to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney’s discontent with Biden was shared by other prominent Democratic donors, particularly after his poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump, which reportedly led to increased pressure on Biden and contributed to his decision to step aside. Following Biden’s announcement, other influential figures, including George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris.
