Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she plans to resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection. Earlier this month, Disney stated that she would halt contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.
In an email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Previously, Disney had expressed support for Harris while announcing her decision to withhold donations.
“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats could accept her perceived shortcomings even slightly as they have with Biden’s, and if they could find a way to unite behind her, we could win this election decisively,” she said.
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden after what many perceived as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. This pushback from elite donors, coupled with a decline in funding, is reported to have influenced Biden’s choice to exit the race. Following Biden’s decision, notable figures such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris.
