Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.
Earlier this month, Disney, a descendant of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, stated she would cease contributions to the party until Biden was replaced as the presidential candidate. Following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, Disney confirmed in an email to CNBC, “Yes, I will resume supporting.”
At the time of her previous announcement, Disney had expressed her backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who became disillusioned with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from the donor community and reduced funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their endorsement of Harris after Biden’s announcement.
