Abigail Disney Reassesses Support for Democrats Post-Biden Exit

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will renew her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has chosen to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier in the month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, declared that she would cease all contributions to the party until Biden was replaced as the presidential candidate. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to resume her donations following Biden’s exit and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

At the time of her initial announcement to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity)… we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after what many perceived as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and a decrease in funding played a role in Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
