Abigail Disney Makes Waves: Is Kamala Harris the Future of the Democratic Party?

Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. Earlier this month, she had stated that she would halt her contributions until Biden stepped aside.

In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her change of heart, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to endorse Harris. When she initially decided to stop her donations, she expressed her support for Harris, praising her as an excellent Vice President. Disney criticized the Democratic Party for not supporting Harris in the same way they have supported Biden, noting issues of race and gender in the perceived inequities.

Disney is among a group of prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after what they deemed a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step away from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, notable financiers like George Soros and his son Alex Soros also voiced their support for Harris.
