Abigail Disney Joins Elite Donors in Backing Harris After Biden’s Exit

Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her decision, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. Earlier this month, Disney had declared that she would halt contributions to the party until Biden stepped aside.

While announcing her decision to withhold support, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney’s stance reflects a broader discontent among elite Democratic donors following Biden’s poor debate performance against Trump, which contributed to pressure on him to withdraw from the race. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris in light of Biden’s exit.
