Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection. Disney, who is the granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, had previously stated that she would halt her contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.
In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her change of heart, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential run. Earlier this month, Disney had expressed her support for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s potential to lead the party.
She stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several elite Democratic donors who criticized Biden following a poorly received debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from high-profile donors and a decrease in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, prominent donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their backing for Harris.
