Aaronson’s Next Big Step: Will Frankfurt Be His Launchpad?

Eintracht Frankfurt’s decision to keep Paxten Aaronson on their roster this season appears to be a promising one for both the club and the young American player. After spending two successful seasons on loan in the Netherlands, the 21-year-old is eager to rejoin his Bundesliga team as they enter the new season. Currently participating in a pre-season training camp in the USA, Aaronson is ready to demonstrate his skills on the field.

Frankfurt is set to face the Philadelphia Union’s academy team, which includes both Paxten and his older brother, Aaron, in a friendly match today. Aaronson has already made an impression during previous friendlies against teams like Louisville City FC and Aston Villa. Throughout these matches, he has primarily played as an attacking midfielder, although he has also gained versatile experience in other positions, including a holding midfielder and makeshift left-back roles during his time in Holland.

Eintracht head coach Dino Toppmöller praised Aaronson’s growth during his loan spells, stating, “It was a very good decision to give him more playing time. What he demonstrated in the Netherlands was impressive. Now we’re happy to have him back.” Aaronson’s loan experiences were fruitful, as he scored nine goals and provided six assists in 37 competitive appearances, leading to an increase in his market value to €8 million. Additionally, he has earned three of his four USMNT caps this year.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup partially hosted by the United States approaching, Aaronson shares the aspirations of many American footballers to represent his country on this grand stage. Despite being used primarily as a substitute by USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino, his performance in the Bundesliga could open doors for him to become a regular starter and enhance his international profile.

Aaronson is not new to the Bundesliga scene, having made seven appearances under former SGE head coach Oliver Glasner towards the end of the 2023/24 season and additional appearances under Toppmöller. His prior experiences have set a foundation for his development as he transitions into a central role in Toppmöller’s newly evaluated formation for the season.

The young midfielder expressed his enthusiasm over his growth throughout his time in Utrecht, noting, “I’ve improved many aspects of my game.” He also asserted his belief that Eintracht is the ideal environment for his ambitions. “They invest a lot of time in developing young players here,” Aaronson stated confidently. As he anticipates future challenges, it appears that his tenure with Eintracht Frankfurt could usher in a promising chapter of both his club and international career.

This article not only highlights Aaronson’s potential but also showcases the supportive environment at Eintracht Frankfurt, emphasizing the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent. His journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring soccer players, underscoring that growth and opportunity are within reach with dedication and the right support.
