Aaron Philo, the Georgia Tech quarterback, is reportedly set to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos and Kelly Quinlan. Having played for the Yellow Jackets for the past two seasons, Philo will have three seasons of eligibility left at his next destination.
During his time at Georgia Tech, Philo served as a backup to Haynes King in 2024 and 2025. He participated in eight games overall, including a notable start this season where he helped secure a victory against Gardner-Webb on September 6. In that game, he completed 21 of 28 passes for an impressive 373 yards, contributing one touchdown despite also throwing one interception. Over the last two seasons, Philo has recorded a total of 59 completions on 102 attempts for 938 yards, accumulating two touchdowns and three interceptions, along with 95 rushing yards and one touchdown on 16 carries.
Philo has a noteworthy high school background, playing at Price Avenue Christian School in Bogart, Georgia, where he gained recognition as a three-star recruit in the 2024 class. He was ranked the No. 708 overall player and No. 46 quarterback nationally, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He holds the record for the all-time leading passer in Georgia high school history, throwing for 13,922 yards, surpassing the prestigious record held by Trevor Lawrence. Additionally, Philo led Prince Avenue to consecutive state championships in his junior and senior years.
Initially committing to Georgia Tech over other offers, including those from Cincinnati and Indiana, Philo is expected to attract attention from similar programs once he officially enters the transfer portal.
With Haynes King exhausting his eligibility, Georgia Tech is now on the lookout for a new starting quarterback ahead of the 2026 season. The Yellow Jackets finished the past year with a commendable 9-3 record, securing a bowl invitation to participate in the Pop Tarts Bowl against BYU.
This offseason, significant changes are occurring in the transfer portal process. The designated 15-day transfer window will open on January 2 and close on January 16, representing the only opportunity for student-athletes to enter the portal. This change follows the NCAA’s decision to eliminate the spring transfer window for football, enabling schools to complete their seasons with their full rosters intact before the portal opens. As before, athletes from teams still competing in the College Football Playoff will have an additional five days following their last game to enter the portal. The upcoming CFP semifinals are scheduled for January 8 and 9, with the national championship game set for January 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
