A$AP Rocky has unveiled a captivating new music video for two tracks from his latest studio album, DON’T BE DUMB, which was released on January 16. The dual visual features the songs “WHISKEY (RELEASE ME)” and “AIR FORCE (BLACK DEMARCO),” collectively titled “WHISKEY / BLACK DEMARCO.”
Directed by Rocky and his AWGE collective, the video stands out with a unique collaboration featuring visionary filmmaker Tim Burton. In an imaginative narrative, Burton inadvertently releases six distinct animated personas from his sketchbook into the bustling streets of New York City. These characters—GR1M, MR. MAYERS, RUGAHAND, BABUSHKA BOI, DUMMY, and SHIRTHEAD—were conceived by Burton to represent various aspects of Rocky’s artistic evolution as they create a whirlwind of chaos throughout Manhattan.
Musically, the two tracks showcase an intriguing contrast. “WHISKEY” features a haunting hook by Damon Albarn, coupled with energetic ad-libs from Westside Gunn, while “BLACK DEMARCO” is characterized by assertive punchlines complemented by a melodic contribution from Spencer Sutherland.
This visually and musically dynamic project not only highlights A$AP Rocky’s innovative style but also reinforces his ability to blend artistry with storytelling. The full album, DON’T BE DUMB, is available for streaming, offering fans a deeper dive into his latest creative endeavors.
