During her visit to Albania on Friday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni received a unique welcome from her Albanian counterpart, Edi Rama, who greeted her by kneeling on a red carpet. This gesture is part of a series of informal interactions Meloni has experienced with other world leaders, showcasing her ability to inspire distinctive displays of admiration.

Meloni was in Tirana for the European Political Community (EPC) summit, which brought together numerous leaders from across Europe. Edi Rama, standing at an impressive 6ft 7in, humorously engaged with Meloni, who stands at 5ft 2in, by kneeling in front of her. She lightheartedly remarked to photographers, “He only does it to be as tall as me.”

In their interaction, Rama, who wore a casual pair of white trainers with his suit, also expressed concern for Meloni’s wellbeing by asking, “Tutto bene?” (Everything OK?). The relationship between Albania and Italy has been reinforced under Rama’s leadership, particularly through initiatives like the establishment of a migrant holding center in northern Albania, although this project faces legal challenges before it can become operational.

The summit symbolizes a cooperative effort among European countries to address pressing issues, including migration and regional security. Meloni’s visit exemplifies the strengthening of ties in the region, aiming for collaborative solutions and mutual support among European nations. This positive interaction highlights the ongoing diplomatic relations and the importance of unity in addressing common challenges.
