Ewan McGregor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, with his Star Wars co-star Hayden Christensen, known for his role as Anakin Skywalker, paying heartfelt tribute despite their fictional rivalry. Christensen recounted their first encounter on the set of 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, describing McGregor as the “coolest person on the planet” who greeted him with unparalleled enthusiasm and warmth.
He remembered, “He exclaims my name with more enthusiasm than I think I’d ever heard it spoken with before,” and shared how McGregor’s warm embrace made him feel he was meeting someone truly special. With a humorous twist, Christensen joked about their characters’ relationship, saying, “A friend who would later go on to chop off both my legs and leave me for dead on the side of a volcano, but I guess I kind of had that coming,” which elicited laughter from the audience.
In the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, McGregor’s character, Obi-Wan Kenobi, dismembers Anakin in a climactic duel after he succumbs to the Dark Side. Christensen praised McGregor, calling him the “best Jedi Master ever” and expressed his gratitude for their time working together, saying, “It’s been an honor and a thrill to get to work with you, and swing a lightsaber with you, and … call you my friend. I love you, brother.” The two embraced following the emotional tribute.
McGregor expressed his gratitude, noting that he was deeply touched to have his star— the 2,789th on the Walk of Fame—located near that of the late Carrie Fisher, another iconic figure from the Star Wars franchise. He shared, “I’m so moved that I’m close to my old friend Carrie Fisher. That means a great deal to me too.”
