Get ready to experience the beloved characters of Hiccup and Toothless in a new light with the teaser trailer for DreamWorks’ live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon.” This highly anticipated film is being helmed by Dean DeBlois, a veteran of the HTTYD franchise, and is set to hit theaters next summer.
In this live-action version, Mason Thames, known for his role in “The Black Phone,” steps into the shoes of Hiccup, originally voiced by Jay Baruchel in the animated films. Hiccup is a gentle Viking boy from the Isle of Berk, who transforms a centuries-long feud between humans and dragons after forming an extraordinary friendship with a Night Fury dragon.
DeBlois shares his excitement for the project, stating, “Revisiting How to Train Your Dragon is an incredible opportunity to direct a live-action film. I genuinely missed these characters and this world. The story resonates universally, as it revolves around a common theme of friendship with a powerful creature, and at its heart, it’s about the courage to find your own voice in a world that pressures you to conform.”
With the support of warrior Astrid, played by Nico Parker, and the quirky blacksmith Gobber, voiced by Nick Frost, Hiccup must tackle a world fraught with fear and misunderstanding. An ancient menace threatens both Viking and dragon worlds, making Hiccup’s bond with Toothless pivotal in steering towards a hopeful future. Together, Hiccup and Toothless will redefine heroism and what it means to lead.
The film’s cast boasts notable names, including Gerard Butler reprising his role as Hiccup’s father, Chief Stoick the Vast, along with Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and Ruth Codd, among others.
The live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” is set to soar into theaters on June 13, 2025. DeBlois not only writes and directs but also serves as producer alongside Marc Platt and Adam Siegel. This adaptation is based on the bestselling book series by Cressida Cowell, and the animated trilogy has already made waves, earning four Academy Award nominations and grossing over $1 billion globally.
With this new adaptation on the horizon, fans are hopeful that the timeless story of friendship, courage, and acceptance will continue to inspire audiences of all ages.
