Glen Taylor and his wife Becky are preparing to conclude their three-decade-long ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx. In a heartfelt farewell letter titled “Thank You, Minnesota,” the Taylors expressed their gratitude for their time with the teams, which they describe as “30 unforgettable years.” They reflected on their efforts to keep the Timberwolves from relocating to New Orleans in 1994 and highlighted the significance of adding the Lynx in 1998 to support women’s sports.
In their letter, they thanked players, staff, partners, and especially the fans, acknowledging that the supporters’ passion was the essence of the organization. “You welcomed us into your homes, your lives, and your hearts,” they wrote, emphasizing their shared experiences, including the electric atmosphere at Target Center.
Although leaving their roles as owners, the Taylors affirmed their ongoing love for the organization and the community, stating it was “the honor of our lives.” Taylor has previously confirmed his decision to transfer control of the teams to Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, following a ruling from an arbitration panel regarding the finalized sale of the franchises. Taylor originally acquired the Timberwolves in 1994 for $88 million, motivated in part by the desire to keep the team in Minnesota.
As the NBA draft approaches, this transition marks a significant shift for the franchise, promising new opportunities and directions under the upcoming ownership.
This change in ownership could bring fresh perspectives and strategies to the Timberwolves and Lynx, fostering hope for a bright future for both teams and their devoted fan base.
