Paradox Interactive has made an exciting announcement regarding the development of Europa Universalis V, marking the first new installment in the renowned grand strategy series since 2013’s Europa Universalis IV. Initially teased as “Project Caesar,” fans had speculated correctly about the nature of this project based on the teaser’s imagery and historical context.
The game’s development has been spearheaded by Paradox Interactive’s Tinto studio in Barcelona, Spain, under the leadership of veteran game designer Johan Andersson. Europa Universalis V transports players to the year 1337, just before the outbreak of the Hundred Years’ War, and offers a choice among numerous factions to shape their campaigns, ranging from prosperous nations to local warlords, all while spanning over 500 years of history.
Players can anticipate classic features of empire building enhanced by deeper diplomacy systems and gameplay improvements that provide multiple paths to world domination, be it through trade or military might. The game promises the most expansive and detailed world in the series to date, introducing more nations and a more accurate geographical layout.
While an official release date has yet to be announced, enthusiasts can express their anticipation by wishlisting Europa Universalis V on Steam, as the game is expected to be “coming soon.”
In addition to this grand strategy title, Paradox Interactive is also preparing for the release of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which has faced several delays and is now set to launch in October 2025 on major gaming platforms.
This announcement marks a hopeful return for fans of the strategy genre, with the anticipation of both Europa Universalis V and the upcoming vampire RPG promising to deliver rich gaming experiences in the near future.
