More Fijians living in remote and rural communities will soon benefit from improved access to banking services, thanks to a new collaboration between Fexco Fiji Pte Limited and BRED Bank (Fiji) Pte Limited. This partnership aims to address the challenges faced by those who often travel extensive distances for basic banking needs.
As part of this initiative, BRED Bank will gradually deploy EFTPoS terminals at various Fexco Fiji locations nationwide. This setup will allow customers to withdraw money directly from their BRED Bank accounts at the nearest Fexco outlet, thus reducing travel costs and increasing convenience for many families, particularly in underserved rural and maritime areas.
BRED Bank Fiji’s CEO, Pierre Tastet, emphasized the initiative’s focus on community needs, stating, “This collaboration is about putting people first. Together, we are aligning our efforts to improve financial inclusion and literacy throughout Fiji.” He highlighted the importance of making banking services more accessible to enhance the financial landscape for all Fijians.
Christopher Wilby, CEO of Fexco Pacific, echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership not only provides a secure option for accessing money but also facilitates quicker remittance transfers directly into BRED Bank accounts. This innovation means families can receive money sent from relatives abroad more promptly and safely, thus significantly improving their financial well-being.
This collaboration represents a critical step towards bridging the financial gap that many Fijians face and aligns with similar recent initiatives aimed at enhancing digital banking capabilities in the country. Notably, BRED Bank’s recent collaboration with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Services to enable real-time electronic tax payments is part of a broader movement towards modernizing financial services in Fiji. These progressive measures reflect a hopeful trend, signaling positive advancements in supporting financial inclusion and improving economic stability for local communities.
