Will Reeve, son of the iconic Superman actor Christopher Reeve, recently shared his heartfelt experiences filming a cameo in the upcoming Superman film directed by James Gunn, set to be released in 2025. In his interview with the New York Post, Will expressed pride in honoring his father’s legacy through this role, which brings back memories of Christopher’s portrayal of Superman in the 1978 classic and its sequels.
Will described the filming process, which took place in Cleveland in July 2024, and mentioned the surprising speed with which the news of his cameo leaked online, just after he finished filming. “I went on set, I did my thing for a few minutes, and then got in the car to head back to the airport… by the time I had gotten to the gate, it had leaked online,” he recounted with a laugh.
His cameo is particularly special, as Will views it as an homage to his father’s enduring impact on generations of fans who consider Christopher Reeve the quintessential Superman. “To include me as a way to include him meant a lot,” he reflected on the filmmakers’ decision.
In his role, Will plays a character closely resembling his own persona, which adds an element of familiarity to his portrayal. He candidly admitted that the experience made him more nervous than his usual live television appearances on shows like Good Morning America.
In addition to his cameo, Will Reeve has engaged in various projects, including his involvement in the documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” which delves into his father’s success and challenges after a tragic horse riding accident in 1995 that led to his paralysis.
Despite the years that have passed since Christopher Reeve’s passing in 2004, Will continues to celebrate his father’s legacy, expressing pride in any resemblance he bears to him, both physically and in values.
The film is now in theaters, promising a fresh take on the beloved superhero while honoring the memory of one of its most iconic portrayals.
