Reports have emerged regarding a new adaptation of the beloved 2006 film “The Holiday,” which is set to be transformed into a limited series for Apple TV+. Unlike the original, this new series will feature a completely fresh cast and storyline, with no return of stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, or Jack Black. Furthermore, director Nancy Meyers has stated that she was unaware of the project until she saw it reported on social media.

In a social media post, Meyers expressed her surprise upon learning about the adaptation through an Instagram story. She wrote, “News to me,” while sharing a screenshot of the Hollywood Reporter article detailing the series. This lack of communication seems to echo her previous attempts to clarify rumors regarding potential sequels to the film, which she dismissed in a 2022 Instagram comment by saying, “So many DM’s about this — sorry but it’s not true.”

The concept for the limited series will remain in line with that of the original, focusing on an ambitious American woman (originally portrayed by Diaz) who participates in a house swap with a heartbroken British woman (originally played by Winslet), leading both to unexpected romances. Rob Delaney is slated to write the series, with Krissie Ducker from Sweetpea serving as executive producer.

Notably, while the original cast will not be reprising their roles, Jude Law has previously expressed a willingness to return to the world of “The Holiday.” His enthusiasm for a sequel has been well-documented, and he even mused about where his character might be today while jokingly referencing his “Mr. Napkin Head” character.

Despite Meyers’ surprise at the adaptation, her past interactions with the original cast hint at ongoing affection for the film’s legacy. The original movie continues to have a beloved place in the hearts of fans and can currently be streamed on Netflix.

This adaptation may bring a new audience to the warm and festive spirit of “The Holiday,” and could potentially provide a fresh take on a classic story, inviting new narratives of love and connection during the holiday season.
