CONCORD, N.C. – Alex Bowman, the driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, will miss the NASCAR Cup Series event at Phoenix Raceway on March 8 due to a recent diagnosis of vertigo.
The 32-year-old began experiencing symptoms during the road course race at Circuit of The Americas, leading him to exit the vehicle at lap 71. Following two days of thorough medical evaluations, Bowman took part in driving laps in a streetcar today at the Ten Tenths Motor Club road course in Concord.
“Alex has worked very hard over the last several days,” stated Jeff Andrews, president of Hendrick Motorsports. “We’re encouraged by the progress he’s making, but we have to prioritize his health above all else. It’s obviously frustrating for him because he’s a competitor and wants to be in the race car, especially at his home track. We’ll continue to support Alex and look forward to his return as soon as he’s medically cleared.”
In Bowman’s absence, 26-year-old Anthony Alfredo will step in for the Phoenix race. A native of Ridgefield, Connecticut, Alfredo has made 210 starts in NASCAR national series, with 43 of those in the Cup Series. He is noted for his extensive simulator testing efforts with Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet.
Hendrick Motorsports has also announced plans to request a medical waiver for Bowman, ensuring he remains eligible for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series championship despite his absence from this event.
The team and fans alike remain hopeful for Bowman’s swift recovery, eager to see him back on the track competing at full strength.
