Individuals in the U.S. who used Siri-enabled devices between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, may be eligible to benefit from a $95 million settlement reached with Apple. The settlement stems from a class-action lawsuit initiated in 2019, wherein plaintiffs accused Apple of recording users’ conversations via Siri without their consent. Although Apple settled the matter without admitting wrongdoing, the payout is now being distributed to affected users.

Notices regarding the settlement have been approved by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and are being sent out. Recipients of the notice will find an email with the subject “Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Settlement,” referencing Fumiko Lopez, one of the plaintiffs.

Eligible users can file claims on the settlement website, where they may submit claims for up to five Siri-enabled devices by July 2, 2025, potentially earning up to $20 per device. The final claim amounts will be disclosed on August 1, 2025. For those who have not received a notice but believe they might be affected, there is an option to file a new claim directly on the settlement website.

It’s crucial to note that by submitting a claim, individuals relinquish their right to sue Apple regarding issues related to this case; however, they may choose to opt-out if they wish to pursue separate legal action.

Additionally, Apple faces ongoing litigation concerning its Siri features, with multiple lawsuits alleging false advertising related to Apple Intelligence and delays in the delivery of an enhanced version of Siri.

This settlement highlights a growing concern over user privacy, particularly how tech companies collect and handle personal information. It serves as a reminder for users to be aware of the implications of using voice-activated technology and the importance of understanding their rights regarding personal data.
