The Philadelphia 76ers faced another challenging game as they finally had their star trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey together for the first time this season. Unfortunately, their highly anticipated collaboration was cut short in the matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, which ended in a disappointing 117-111 loss for Philadelphia.
Paul George exited the game due to a left knee hyperextension, the same knee that previously sidelined him for the first five games of the season due to a bone bruise caused by an earlier hyperextension. The injury occurred during the third quarter as he landed awkwardly while attempting to defend Grizzlies player Desmond Bane.
The situation became even more concerning for the Sixers, as shortly after George’s exit, Embiid collided with Jaren Jackson Jr., limping to the bench but ultimately remaining in the game. Nonetheless, George’s latest injury contributes to a string of setbacks for the team.
The Sixers have struggled this season, currently tied for last place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 2-11. After acquiring George to enhance their championship aspirations, the team has been plagued by injuries. Embiid missed games due to a knee issue, while George’s earlier absence was due to his bone bruise. Within this tumultuous period, Embiid also dealt with a suspension for an altercation over his injury management.
While the start of the season has been tough, there is hope that as the players recover, they will regain their form and positively impact the team’s performance moving forward. The return of all three stars to the court, regardless of the current struggles, could signal a turning point if they can build chemistry and stay healthy in the games to come.
