The Ministry of Education is implementing temporary solutions to address the pressing issue of teacher shortages, currently deploying over 600 secondary school teachers to primary schools to cover gaps. Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro emphasized that this strategy is essential for keeping classrooms operational while more sustainable solutions are developed.
Radrodro expressed optimism about the influx of newly graduated primary school teachers, with more than 380 expected to join the teaching workforce soon from training institutions. However, he acknowledged that significant shortages persist, particularly in critical subject areas like Mathematics and Computer Studies. The Ministry is striving to utilize available resources effectively to address these gaps.
In a positive sign, Radrodro noted that despite these challenges, student performance has remained strong, as evidenced by encouraging examination results released recently. He urged parents, communities, and education stakeholders to collaborate closely, highlighting that education is a shared responsibility. Sustained collective support will be essential to uphold and enhance educational standards in schools.
The proactive measures taken by the Ministry reflect a commitment to maintain educational quality, ensuring that students continue to receive the support they need to thrive despite the ongoing challenges within the teaching workforce.
