The 49ers faced a disappointing defeat last night, managing to score only six points against the opposing team while allowing four field goals on defense. The situation worsened when linebacker De’Vondre Campbell exited the field, leaving fans feeling that the season is nearing its end with only three games remaining.
Despite this bleak outlook, there were standout performances worth acknowledging. Tight end George Kittle, once again, proved to be the brightest spot for the offense, receiving the highest offensive grading despite the overall lack of production. Kittle criticized Campbell’s departure during a post-game press conference, asserting that he remains the heart and soul of the team’s offensive strategy, which should prioritize him more heavily in future games. He recorded four catches for 61 yards and boasted an impressive run-blocking grade of 74.0.
While the offensive struggles overshadowed many players, Isaac Guerendo made an honorable mention by turning 20 touches into 75 scrimmage yards, an indication of a tough night for the offensive unit.
On the defensive side, linebacker Dre Greenlaw shined brightly. His energy and performance were instrumental, racking up seven tackles and four defensive stops while achieving impressive overall grades of 87.6 (overall), 81.8 (run defense), and 81.4 (tackling). His return from a significant Achilles injury in the Super Bowl brought new life to the defense, energizing fellow linebacker Fred Warner, who also performed outstandingly with a top defensive grade of 92.1.
The 49ers’ secondary displayed a commendable effort as well, largely containing star receiver Cooper Kupp and limiting quarterback Matthew Stafford’s performance. Deommodore Lenoir emerged as a notable contributor, earning a defensive grade of 78.6.
While the 49ers’ struggles persist, these individual performances remind fans that there is hope for a turnaround. Kittle and Greenlaw’s exceptional play offers a foundation that could be built upon in the remaining weeks, potentially reinvigorating the team and its supporters for the future.
As the 2024 season progresses, there is still time to make adjustments and perhaps end on a positive note, providing a glimpse of hope for a more successful 2025 season.
