SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The tense negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and receiver Brandon Aiyuk have finally concluded, with both sides seemingly eager to emerge victorious. On Thursday, the 49ers and Aiyuk reached an agreement on a four-year, $120 million contract that will keep him in San Francisco through the 2028 season, according to sources.
Aiyuk accepted the same offer that had been on the table since August 12, bringing an end to about six months of public negotiations, trade demands, and near agreements. The outcome serves as a win for common sense, as both sides recognized the necessity of this contract.
For the 49ers, maintaining their top receiver is crucial if they aim to be serious Super Bowl contenders. Conversely, Aiyuk, who is looking to build on his All-Pro achievements and compete for a Super Bowl ring, needs the 49ers as well.
Despite the tumultuous discussions leading to this point, the contract aligns with the 49ers’ strategy of securing key players long-term late in the summer.
