In response to growing concerns about their receiving corps, the San Francisco 49ers held a workout for wide receiver Robbie Chosen on Saturday, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. Chosen, who first entered the NFL in 2016, had a brief stint with the 49ers in 2024 before being waived during the roster cuts.
Following his release from the 49ers, Chosen joined the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad but struggled to make an impact, recording just one reception for five yards over two games before being released again shortly thereafter. His standout performance came in 2020 when he was with the Carolina Panthers, where he caught 95 passes for 1,096 yards.
The current situation for the 49ers is challenging, as they are dealing with injuries to several key players, including Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, and Jacob Cowing. Although Jordan Watkins returned to practice recently, the team’s depth at the wide receiver position is thin. The workout for Chosen appears to be part of a strategy to manage training camp reps, especially with Jennings and Cowing still recovering from their injuries.
This development comes at a crucial time as the 49ers aim to shore up their roster before the upcoming season. With a proactive approach, they are looking to ensure they have enough players ready to compete as August approaches. The hope is that with the right adjustments, the team’s offensive capabilities will be bolstered, fostering a positive outlook for their season ahead.
