New Rules for the 2024 Home Run Derby

This year, the Home Run Derby will see a format change, moving away from a strict tournament style. All eight hitters will compete in the first round, with the top four performers advancing to the semifinals, seeded 1-4 based on their home run totals. In case of ties, the longest home run hit by each player will determine the tiebreaker.

In the first two rounds, each player will have three minutes, or a maximum of 40 pitches, to hit as many home runs as possible. Each player is allowed one 45-second timeout, which cannot be used during bonus time (awarded for home runs longer than 425 feet). For the finals, players will have two minutes or 27 pitches, excluding bonus time.
