Twenty new recycling bins have been introduced to communities in Serua Province, marking a significant step in addressing waste management challenges and contributing to climate action efforts. This initiative aligns with the global recognition of World Wetlands Day, celebrated at Nabukelevu recently.

The distribution included eight bins for Nabukelevu Village, two for Nabukelevu District School, with five bins allocated to both Naboutini Village and Nakorovou Village. The Ministry of Environment’s involvement extends beyond waste management, as they also provided school supplies to Nabukelevu District School.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya, alongside British High Commissioner to Fiji Kanbar Hossein-Bor, conducted the official handover of both the recycling bins and the school items. During the event, Tabuya emphasized the vital role that proper waste disposal and sustainable practices play in protecting the environment.

The school staff expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the government’s support, noting that the resources will greatly benefit over 70 students. This collaborative effort not only enhances local waste management initiatives but also fosters a sense of environmental stewardship among the younger generation. The provision of these resources signifies hope for a cleaner, more sustainable future for the communities involved.
