Marking a significant achievement in Fiji’s endeavor to boost its Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) and Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) sectors, twenty individuals have graduated from a groundbreaking program developed by the consultancy group, Solved Fiji. This 12-week pilot course, held at Solved Fiji’s Quantum Space Learning and Innovation Hub and supported by the Australian Government’s Market Development Facility, provided participants with practical training in critical areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) fundamentals, web design, online marketing, and digital development.
Janice Nand, Director of Solved Fiji, emphasized the initiative’s goal to empower young Fijians to confidently step into high-value digital roles, aiding local businesses in their competitive edge on a global scale. “These graduates are equipped to drive Fiji’s move up the outsourcing value chain—a win for our youth, our businesses, and our economy,” she stated.
The outsourcing industry in Fiji plays a vital role in the economy, with an annual contribution of approximately FJD235 million and a workforce that has tripled since 2018, now standing at over 8,000 professionals, of which 70 percent are women. Despite this growth, many jobseekers still lack the specialized skills necessary for success in the KPO and ITO fields.
Graduate Ilisaveci Gadivi Volaumaitoga reflected on the program’s impact, indicating that the group learned collaboratively and supported each other through challenges. “We explored how AI tools can enhance efficiency not only in outsourcing but also in industries like education, finance, tourism, and healthcare,” she shared.
Addressing the high onboarding costs that smaller firms face when competing for new contracts, the article highlighted the importance of targeted training and industry partnerships. This approach can empower emerging businesses, allowing them to compete more sustainably in global markets.
Praising the training initiative, Australian High Commission First Secretary Emily Wilson noted the importance of equipping Fijians with practical skills to meet the increasing global demand for specialized outsourcing services. “We’re proud to back initiatives that build skills, create jobs, and drive inclusive growth in Fiji. This curriculum shows how innovation and partnership can unlock real opportunities for Fijian communities and businesses,” Wilson stated.
As part of the program, Solved Fiji has committed to assisting its graduates with direct industry placements in outsourcing companies across Nadi and Suva, facilitating their transition from training to employment. This support illustrates the dedication to nurturing local talent and enhancing the overall competence of the outsourcing sector in Fiji.
The positive sentiment surrounding these developments underscores a hopeful trajectory for Fiji’s outsourcing industry. With initiatives focused on skill development, industry collaboration, and inclusivity, the country is poised to solidify its position as a competitive player in the global outsourcing arena.
