Isaia Lotawa, a promising rugby talent standing at 2.01 meters, is on his way to realizing his dream of representing the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the Flying Fijians. Originating from Nalotawa Village in Ba, Lotawa has been steadily earning recognition in Fiji’s rugby scene, particularly highlighted by his impressive performances in the 2025 Skipper Cup season with the Ba Rugby Union.
Recently, Lotawa had a memorable experience captaining Ba during their quarter-final match against Naitasiri at Lawaqa Park. Although the team faced an unexpected exit, Lotawa’s spirit remains undeterred, showcasing his commitment to the growth and unity of the Ba Rugby Union. “This is a big opportunity. Coming out from local competitions and being part of the Fijian Warriors team means a lot. It shows that hard work at the provincial level is being recognized,” he expressed.
His tenure with the Fijian Warriors has proven to be a transformative phase, largely thanks to the exceptional coaching staff and high-level training opportunities that he credits for his development. Lotawa emphasizes that rugby in Fiji is not just a game but a vital aspect of the culture, with unwavering community support playing a crucial role. “We truly have the best rugby fans in the world,” he said, highlighting the strong communal spirit that envelops the sport.
Lotawa’s rugby journey began at Saint Mary’s College of California, where he competed in Division 1A rugby from 2018 to 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic led him back to Fiji, allowing him to further chase his rugby aspirations. He has also played for the Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby before returning to local competitions to refine his skills.
With ambitions set high, Lotawa confidently stated, “My goal is to make it to the Fijian Drua and then the Flying Fijians.” This objective resonates with a broader hope in the Fijian rugby community, as young talents like Isoa Tuwai and Rafaele Waqalala are also stepping into the spotlight, aiming to leave their mark within the Drua setup.
