A total of 149 police recruits, including 10 from the Tuvalu Police Force, celebrated their graduation from a three-month Basic Recruits Course today at the Nasova Grounds, officially becoming members of the Fiji Police Force.

In his keynote address, Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua reminded the new officers that their actions in uniform would define their careers, rather than their intentions. He emphasized the principle of Salus Populi, underscoring the importance of prioritizing public welfare above personal interests. “That is the standard and expectation. When you serve with the right mindset, you will serve to the best of your ability,” he stated.

The Minister pointed out the evolving challenges of modern policing and encouraged the recruits to adopt a comprehensive approach to their roles. He emphasized that officers will be under constant public scrutiny, the need to earn and maintain public trust is paramount. Naivalurua urged the recruits to serve with confidence, lead with integrity, and perform their duties fearlessly.

Acknowledging the vital support system provided by families, the Minister noted that while tools and crime continue to evolve, the backing from loved ones remains invaluable. He posed three crucial questions to the recruits: “Can you do the job? Can we trust you to do the job? Are you ethically solid?”

The Minister also urged Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu to further enhance capacity building and training within the Force to improve operational effectiveness.

The pass-out parade marks an important milestone for these new officers, signaling the beginning of their active service in protecting and serving the community of Fiji with commitment and integrity. This event represents a hopeful step towards a more responsive and accountable policing framework in the region.
