A Class 8 student at Stella Maris, Setaita is among the youngest rising stars in Suva Volleyball, where her immense potential is starting to reveal itself.
Originating from Levuka i Gau in Lomaiviti and having maternal connections to Matanimoli, Noco, Rewa, Setaita’s journey into the world of volleyball began long before she stepped onto a competitive court. As a child, she was captivated by watching her parents compete in thrilling matches at Sukuna Camp, where her love for the sport began to take root.
Living in the Nasova Police Barracks, volleyball soon became a vital part of her daily life, with the lively atmosphere of the game becoming a second home for Setaita. She credits the late Teresia Vocevoce, a renowned coach with the Police Women’s team and a member of the Suva coaching staff, for inspiring her to uphold values of discipline, teamwork, and self-belief.
Her talent did not go unnoticed, as Mila Karisitiana, captain of the Suva Volleyball Phoenix team, extended an invitation for Setaita to join the squad. This was a turning point in her burgeoning career, and the experience of donning the Suva jersey for the first time at the recent Vulaca Tournament was nothing short of emotional for Setaita. Competing alongside seasoned players while still in primary school marked a proud milestone in her young athletic journey.
Setaita’s maturity and gratitude stand out as she recognizes the contributions of the Suva Volleyball Association’s management and coaches who nurture young talents and create pathways for development. She acknowledges her parents’ unwavering support, especially her father, who continues to inspire her ambitions from abroad.
Looking to the future, Setaita is eager to participate in upcoming events such as the Western Rally, Vanua, and Easter championships, as she nurtures her commitment to volleyball and sets her sights high in the sport.
