November 13 is recognized as World Kindness Day, a celebration that emphasizes the importance of compassion and generosity in our communities. In central Ohio, local residents will be rewarded for their acts of kindness with free coffee, courtesy of the Center for HumanKindness at The Columbus Foundation.

On this special day, from the early hours until 10 a.m., six participating coffee shops in Columbus will offer two complimentary coffees to visitors—one for themselves and another to share with a friend. This initiative aims to honor those who contribute positively to the community through their kindness.

The participating coffee shops include:

– Black Kahawa Coffee, 2 East Broad Street
– Global Gallery, 3535 North High Street
– Freedom a la Cart, 123 East Spring Street
– The Light Meeting House, 1485 Oak Street
– The Roosevelt Coffeehouse, Downtown: 300 East Long Street
– The Roosevelt Coffeehouse, Franklinton: 462 West Broad Street

This coffee giveaway is part of a broader five-day campaign that highlights acts of kindness, correlating with the foundation’s celebration. On the second day of the campaign, the foundation will spotlight its 51 Gifts of Kindness nonprofit partners. Following this, there will be collaborations with The Dispatch and Dispatch Magazines, along with events at the Columbus Museum of Art, where attendees can receive Center for HumanKindness merchandise.

In conjunction with the coffee celebration, over 400 educators in Columbus’ elementary and middle schools will engage students in discussions about World Kindness Day. Utilizing the World Kindness Day Educator Toolkit, created by Seeds of Caring and the Center for HumanKindness, students will explore the concept of kindness and recognize how both large and small actions can foster positive change within their communities. Each classroom will receive a portion of a $20,000 fund allocated by the Center for HumanKindness to donate to local nonprofits of their choice, impacting approximately 60,000 students.

The celebration of World Kindness Day reflects a collective effort to inspire community participation and support for the important work being done by various local organizations. Through these initiatives, individuals are encouraged to manifest kindness in their daily lives, fostering a culture of generosity and compassion within central Ohio.
